Norman's Experience

Norman supervises a team responsible for the design, initial certification, and ongoing operations at Fuze Aviation Academy AMO 1632. His extensive expertise has earned him the role of Apprentice Mentor, where he has Mentored out of 100 apprentices 60 have qualified, contributing to South Africa’s critical shortage of aircraft mechanics.

Previously, Norman served as Senior Manager at Desert Air Maintenance  in Namibia, overseeing AMO day-to-day operations. His responsibilities included conducting mandatory periodic inspections, ensuring compliance with Namibian civil aviation  regulations Quality Assurance representative, and training apprentices. At Skyhawk Aviation, he was Manager of the AMO, overseeing a fleet of 15 aircraft and a team of six personnel.

At 43 Air School in Port Alfred, Norman’s career journey began as an unlicensed engineer, working his way up to Crew Chief leading 12 engineers. Within a year, he was promoted to Senior Inspector, managing a fleet of around 55 aircraft. His duties included supervising mandated inspections – such as Piper 2,000-hour inspections – as well as rebuilding and registering imported aircraft from the United States in South Africa.

He has trained apprentices from both South Africa and the Namibian Civil Aviation Authority, and earlier in his career, worked as an unlicensed certified mechanic under the supervision of licensed engineers. At Aerotech Pvt Ltd / Air Zimbabwe Pvt Ltd, he trained as an apprentice, earning diplomas as an Aircraft Engines and Airframe Fitter and in Aeronautical Engineering.
