While many associate aviation with piloting or being a flight attendant, Dr Ngcobo highlights the industry’s wide range of career pathways. “Engineering comes first – we need mechanics to maintain planes, IT experts, and even air traffic controllers to ensure smooth take-offs and landings,” she notes.
She emphasised the critical role of strong academics in high school for anyone aspiring to enter the aviation industry. Subjects such as Pure Mathematics are often overlooked, yet they are essential for meeting entry requirements and succeeding in aviation studies. Recognising this gap, Fuze Aviation Academy has introduced a forward-thinking cadet programme designed specifically for Grade 10 learners. The programme ensures students take the right subject combination early on, positioning them to transition seamlessly into aviation studies after Grade 12.
What sets the academy apart is its early exposure to flight training. Learners begin working towards their PPL (Private Pilot Licence) while still in high school, meaning that by their final year, they already hold a licence that strengthens and anchors their future aviation journey.
