Soaring to New Heights: How South Africa is Leading the Way for Women in Aviation

South Africa is currently flying high on the global stage, ranking third in the world for its percentage of female pilots. With women making up nearly 10% of the country’s pilot population, South Africa sits impressively above the global average of around 5%, trailing only behind India and Ireland. While this statistic is a powerful testament to the strides being made in a traditionally male-dominated industry, the journey toward true representation is far from over. The sector is still hungry for transformation, and organisations like Fuze Aviation Academy are stepping up to ensure that the future of aviation is both diverse and inclusive.

At the forefront of this movement is Dr. Thandi Ngcobo, a medical doctor turned aviation pioneer who founded Fuze Aviation Academy to change the face of the industry. Under her leadership, the academy has already made history as the first black-owned company to win an award at the Aero Club of South Africa Annual Awards.
